Tasting Notes:

Notes of silky toffee sweetness, moving into a super sweet Almond Praline biscuit. On the finish you'll get a sweet Green Grape acidity that's not confronting at all.

Roasters thoughts:

“We sourced this decaf to replace our long time favorite Cordillera in it's absence. It's tasting absolutely delightful and a worthy contender of our strict lineup of amazing decafs. Super sweet, easy to drink, just a fab cup of joe!”

The Coffee:

Huila

Located in southwestern Colombia, Huila is nestled in-between the Central and Eastern ranges of the Andes, with the middle area called the Magdalena Valley. The variation in elevation results in Huila being one of the country's most unique and complex regions of coffee production. Its terroir, climate, and harvest cycles all contribute to the quality of coffee produced here. The most impressive quality behind the coffees coming out of Huila lies in the people producing them. While Huila accounts for nearly 20% of the country's production, 80% of coffee producers operate on less than three hectares.

This decaffeination process is unique. The caffeine is extracted using sugar cane and water which enhances sweetness while maintaining coffee attributes. The green beans are put into a steam chamber where the silver skin is removed from the bean. After this, the beans are submerged in spring water and as soon as the coffee is saturated with water it is sent to the extractors where the beans have direct contact with sugar cane E.A for 8 hours which dissolves the caffeine content. Then the decaffeinated coffee is dried in a chamber to reach the same moisture content that it had prior to the process.

Great tasting beans

The best decaf I’ve had. It tastes great as long black, and beans are very pleasant even as flat white. Beans are roasted slightly darker on the medium roast scale, so I tend to run it a bit shorter. I have happily recommended the beans to friends.
Although slightly less complex than a specialty coffee beans, I still enjoy the taste. I tried a cup even at night, and still fell asleep normally. So the decaf process works!

Real Tasty - No Caffeine

Ok this stuff is delicious. Stoked for finally find a decaf filter roast that tastes good! Plus, no chemicals in the decaf process. Brewed in a V60 and AeroPress, both amazing.

Pretty smooth

Easier to dial in the best flavour than the Sidamo. Added a little cold water to bring the finishing temp below boiling water temp. Get that toffee flavour to start with a bit of grape to finish. I’d order it again.

Yum

I'm a british immigrant of 8 months and am thrilled that I've finally found wonderful decaf coffee down under! Bonus points that it's roasted in melbourne where I live

Perhaps a keeper?

I think I might prefer this to the Cordillera… controversial? Maybe. But kept 100g of it and side by side the newbie takes the win every time. Sweet, a pleasant acidity and great body. 1:16 in a Clever dripper. Delicious.
