Small Batch Series: Seasonal Coffee at Its Best

The Small Batch Series brings you limited coffees that are fresh, traceable, and full of character. This release features Red & Yellow Bourbon microlots from El Vergel Estate in Colombia, grown by Elias & Shady Bayter and their partner Martha Montenegro. Formerly avocado farmers, the Bayters shifted to coffee in 2006 and have been perfecting their approach ever since.

These microlots are planted among guava trees and processed using a natural anaerobic fermentation that lasts 48 to 60 hours with carefully controlled pH levels. 🌱 After fermentation, the beans go through an intermittent drying process that enhances their complexity. ☀️ A 45-day chilling period follows, fine-tuning the vibrant flavors. ❄️

The result is a coffee with lively tropical notes, bright berry and plum flavors, crisp acidity, and a subtle hint of cocoa. 🍓🍑🍫

A Farm Built on Innovation and Sustainability
At El Vergel, coffee farming goes hand in hand with care for the environment and the local community:
🌳 ReForest Program – Restoring native shade trees to support biodiversity.
☀️ Solar Energy – Reducing the farm’s carbon footprint with renewable energy.
🏡 Community Support – Providing housing for farm workers and improving local schools.

This microlot represents what makes coffee special: hard work, thoughtful processes, and flavors that stand out. Whether you’re a fan of fruit-forward profiles or exploring something new, this coffee is worth trying.

What a coffee!!

As soon as I opened the bag I knew I was in for something special- what an aroma.

My first extraction – from 22 g of beans – was absolutely stunning. It poured like honey with a beautiful thick creamer. I made a latte and the coffee really blossomed in milk. I could certainly taste the guava, with hints of banana and plum, And it had a pleasing acidity but no bitterness.

As an espresso shot he had full flavour and in intensity.

I’ve been experimenting with frozen Coffee recently – an extraction from 22 g of frozen beans revealed even more depth of flavour to this wonderful coffee.

Walk, don’t run, to get yourself some of this Coffee! I can’t wait to get my next batch.
