Tasting Notes:

Notes of silky toffee sweetness, moving into an oily chocolate mousse mouthfeel. The taste has a well-balanced Raspberry acidity that helps this stand out thru Milk based beverages.

Roasters thoughts:

“A surprisingly amazing decaf. We knew this was a great tasting decaf but once we put it into our production roasting environment it's exceeded all our expectations. Whether you drink your decaf black or with milk it's a serious standout.”

The Coffee:

Popayán is located in the department of Cauca at 1,700 m.a.s.l. This regions topography is perfect to grow exceptional coffee! The so-called Meseta de Popayan is sheltered by the Andes mountain range which helps generate homogeneous climatic and altitudinal characteristics. The result is a balanced cup profile with floral and caramel notes. We collaborate with approximately 65 growers who contribute to this program and with whom we build long-term relationships. This program encourages farmers to focus on quality and based on quality assessment we provide up to 20% premiums above the market price.

This decaffeination process is unique. The caffeine is extracted using sugar cane and water which enhances sweetness while maintaining coffee attributes. The green beans are put into a steam chamber where the silver skin is removed from the bean. After this, the beans are submerged in spring water and as soon as the coffee is saturated with water it is sent to the extractors where the beans have direct contact with sugar cane E.A for 8 hours which dissolves the caffeine content. Then the decaffeinated coffee is dried in a chamber to reach the same moisture content that it had prior to the process.

My favourite coffee

The quality of these beans is unparalleled, they look, taste and behave just like normal coffee. I prefer my coffee black but often found myself adding milk to help cover up the abhorrent taste of most decaf beans. This is absolutely not required in this instance, they have a smooth and well balanced flavour profile that stands up all on its own and just look at that crema!

Colombian popayan

Since I switched to decaf well over a year ago I always order this sugar cane roasted decaf and I really love it. It’s mellow and smooth with beautiful notes as described and it has great full bodied flavour and is a lovely deep red golden colour when mixed with milk .
I don’t miss full caffeine coffee at all and this is the best tasting decaf coffee I have ever had . You can tell when you open that’s been freshly roasted for you. I use coffee filter papers and pour over method to make a nice big cup. Delicious.

Love my Decaf

Awesome Decaf. Still trying to decided which is the nicest. Brought sampler pack to try all 3.

Popayan

Don’t normally drink Decaf, however, the Columbia Popayan was delicious. I found it gently sweet, full cream , not an acidic finish, which suited me.

Ethyl Acetate

Ethyl Acetate is a naturally occurring compound, often derived from sugar cane molasses fermentation. While its name may sound intimidating, it’s simply a combination of ethanol (alcohol) and acetic acid (the primary acid in vinegar)—both natural and food-safe. Ethyl Acetate is also found in everyday fruits like apples and pears.
