This coffee won a silver medal in the world's largest coffee roasting competition Golden Bean 2024. We were super excited to win this, in all honesty we kinda knew this was going to win something because it's tastes so dang good!

Tasting Notes:

Delightful soft acidity and a smooth texture characterize this coffee. Enjoy hints of caramel and brown sugar, with notes of dried dates, red berries, and nutmeg providing a delightful finish.

The Coffee:

On a 250km route from Oaxaca city towards the Pacific Coast, you'll find the renowned coffee region, Pluma. Old, extinct volcanoes dot the landscape, contributing to the fertile volcanic soil ideal for coffee cultivation.

The region's humid climate, coupled with significant rainfall, nurtures the coffee plants. Thankfully, during coffee harvest, the weather remains predominantly dry.

Traditional varieties, including Pluma Hidalgo, Arabica Tipica, and Bourbon, are still grown in this region. Smaller farms with efficient washing and sun drying facilities are common. It's customary for farmers here to thoroughly sort their coffee during the wet milling process, which results in beautifully processed parchment coffee.

From January to March, the main harvest season, the coffee beans are sun-dried, enhancing the coffee's flavour. The region is known for its low production per hectare, typically producing only four bags on average.

BEST Coffee

I was surprised.
Even with high expectation from all the high reviews, I still got surprised with the quality of this coffee.
Its purity, the flagrance, the dreamy after taste...
I usually order cappucino at a cafe, but for this one, I didn't want to add any milk or sugar.
I usually order take away coffee and drive away, but this one, I just had to sit down and enjoy the moment.

Being a new mother, every day (especially morning) is chaotic but this coffee allows me to stop for instance and let me taste life <3
And the best part is that it's safe for my breastfed bub too.

My favourite

Delicious! Had to give up caffeine and MEXICO - CHIAPAS ORGANIC helped me do it. I get the espresso grind and use an aeropress. It’s the best! I am amazed that it has only been a few weeks and I am not missing my caffeinated coffee at all.

Spectacular!

I wasn’t sure if a decaf coffee bean could be delicious and appealing, but this has met all of my expectations and I’ll be buying this one and trying the others for sure!

Disappointing

Picked up the James Hoffman decaf project bean set. There wasn't a lot going on flavour-wise and the ashiness from the dark hulls dominated. Would be fine in a milk drink but was expecting something better and the roasting did not show off the beans. Disappointing given the likelihood the event will never happen again and disappointing given the expense.

The search for a good decaf espresso continues (enjoy your milk-based decaf drinks, but Inglewood's decaf was better IMO).

MOUNTAIN WATER PROCESS

Mountain Water Process is a method of indirect decaffeination. All our MWP decafs come from the Descamex facility, which uses pure water from Pico de Orizaba—the highest mountain in Mexico.

The process begins with a caffeine analysis to determine optimal conditions required, the beans are then steamed and prepared for caffeine removal. The extraction process uses a water-based saturation method and a precise combination of pressure, vacuum, and environmental temperatures in order to extract caffeine while retaining the coffee’s flavor compounds.

Once you become acquainted with our quality, you'll soon learn we only stock the best decaffeination methods available which means it's really hard to not pick a winner.
